Rose

Rosa hybrida

Rose has been valued in skin care for over 3,500 years, with documented use in ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Persian, and Ayurvedic traditions. The petals are rich in geraniol, citronellol, nerol, and eugenol — aromatic compounds that give rose its signature softness — alongside flavonoids, tannins, and natural polyphenols that contribute to its skin-conditioning quality. Of all the botanical petals used in traditional cosmetics, rose is among the most enduring across cultures.

Did You Know

Roses are one of the few flowers whose petals are still distilled commercially using the same steam method described by Persian alchemist Avicenna in the 11th century — the production of rose water has continued essentially unchanged for nearly a thousand years.

Our Sourcing

Rose is grown in InVine's Tallahassee garden, where the long Florida bloom season produces fragrant petals from spring well into fall. We harvest the petals in the early morning when their aromatic compound concentration is at its peak, then dry them gently in our climate-controlled drying room before beginning a slow infusion in cold-pressed organic oils. Drying at low temperature in the dark preserves the delicate geraniol and citronellol that give rose its softness — heat or sunlight would simply burn that aroma away.

Why We Use It

Rose is the heart of the Rose Renewal Crème, and there is no botanical substitute for what it brings to a face crème. Its aromatic profile is unmistakable — soft, floral, deeply familiar — and its flavonoid and tannin content gives the infusion a beautifully conditioning quality on the skin. I added rose to our garden specifically for this formula, and watching the petals move from the bush to the drying racks to the infusion jars has become one of the most quietly satisfying parts of our seasonal rhythm.
